The match was part of a World Team Tennis event between McEnroe's New York Sportstimes and the Philadelphia Freedom.
In the end, McEnroe edged out Borg 5-4 in a single set match. It was a fitting reminder of the intense matches - including two five set matches in 1980 in both the Wimbledon and U.S. Open finals - the pair shared during their professional playing days.
And even in their advanced ages - McEnroe is 52 and Borg is 55 - the former tennis pros made some impressive shots. At one point, a Borg served was clocked at 127 miles per hour.
The heated rivalry between Borg and McEnroe is the subject of a recently released HBO documentary called Fire vs. Ice.
