Our absentee mayor

Dear Editor,

Regarding your editorial, "Mr. Mayor, New York needs your attention (2/28/19)," Mayor Bill de Blasio's recent visit to Iowa was the latest in a long series

of out-of-town trips since his 2017 re-election.

Published reports estimate he spent 20 percent of his time last year traveling to cities like El Paso, Austin and New Orleans for purposes unrelated to his job.

We elected him to run New York City, not run away from it. If he spent more time on his day job, he might have a better record on solving the homeless crisis, NYCHA's decay and his failed school renewal program.

Our mayor is also a hypocrite. If he's so alarmed about climate change, why does he fly so often? Aviation fuel is a leading cause of carbon dioxide pollution.

Unless Bogus Bill stays grounded, he's just full of hot air.

Sincerely,

Richard Reif
