The Williamsburg Performance Alliance (WPA) is kicking off their third annual WPA Free Test weekend on September 27, which will play host to free dance, theatre and alternative art works.
The WPA, a creative network of artists, venues and arts organizations formed in 2006, aims to increase visibility of the expansive arts scene of Williamsburg while addressing individual and community issues.
That’s what the weekend is all about.
On Friday at 6 p.m., The New York Clown Theatre Festival Clown Funeral & Closing Night Party Theatre Group Dzieci leads the procession of The NY Clown Theatre Festival 2008 at The Brick. The irreverent and morbid event will mock the “achievements” of the festival’s short four-week run.
A little later at 7:30 p.m. a performance by The New York Butoh-Kan: Training Initiative Program (NYBK) will take place at the CAVE. The group aims to show developing new work by dancers, actors, and interdisciplinary performances by students.
Finally at 8 p.m., The Battle Ranch Annex will host an event presented by the Vampire Cowboys. In its seventh season, the Vampire Cowboys will show off its monthly party by bringing back the new genre-bending serialized plays by NYC’s hottest Independent theater artists.
But that’s just a sampling of events on Friday, and the fun goes on all weekend. More information about these shows and others can be found at www.newwpa.org.
