“We were able to do a lot of great work this year because of your support,” Melvin Tse, executive director of the Greenpoint Y, told the crowd. “Our work is possible because of such great support from community members, business leaders, and elected officials.”
Last year, the YMCA served over 4,000 kids, many of which take part in programs that are either free or are provided with some sort of financial assistance.
This year’s Winter Gathering was sponsored by Con Edison and Citistorage. In recognition of their sponsorship, Tse presented awards to Stuart Leffler of Con Ed and Norm and Elaine Brodsky of Citistorage.
As the financial situation worsens, organizations like the Greenpoint Y are increasingly turning to outside donors to help balance their budgets.
“In these economic times, non-profits are being asked to do more with less,” remarked Paul Pullo, chairman of the Y’s Board of managers.
