Police are investigating the death of 71-year-old Joseph Ranieri from Long Island City.

Ranieri was discovered lying on the road near 958 Meeker Avenue unconscious and unresponsive by police officers early Tuesday morning.

He was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A preliminary investigation founds that he was trying to cross Meeker Avenue (from south to north) when a 30-year-old driver of a 2012 Jeep struck him.

The operator remained on the scene.

There are no arrests at this time, police say. The investigation is ongoing.

A verbal dispute in the early morning hours in front of an East Williamsburg bar led to some violence and lost money.

Police say that on February 8, at approximately 4:07 a.m., a 33-year-old man was among many patrons standing in front of Duck Duck, a bar on 161 Montrose Avenue.

The 33-year-old victim struck up a conversation with one of the two suspects. As the dialogue got heated, one of the two suspects approached the victim from behind, grabbed him by the neck and dragged him to the ground.

The first suspect then hit the suspect as he was on the ground. The suspects removed $1,350 from the victim’s pants pocket.

After the suspects fled the scene, the victim refused medical attention.

Police are looking for a man who robbed an East Williamsburg market last month.

Authorities say that on Wednesday, February 1, at approximately 8:20 a.m., an unidentified man walked into L-Mo’s Market on 51 Morgan Avenue.

Once he was inside, he snuck into the store’s private office, where he took $800 from a desk.

The man left the office, exited the store and walked west on Grattan Street.

The MTA and Department of Transportation (DOT) are hosting another public workshop tonight to brainstorm alternative transit options when the L train shuts down in 2019.

The MTA is currently mulling over and developing plans for additional subway, ferry and bus service in advance of the closure.

Residents are invited to share their thoughts on the alternative options.

According to the MTA website, the analysis will be completed in spring 2017. Results and proposed alternatives will be reviewed with elected officials, community boards, local stakeholders and the larger community for feedback, the MTA website says.

During the shutdown, which is for the Canarsie Tube to be reconstructed after Sandy damaged much of the tunnel, this is how the L train line will change:

• The L will operate between Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway and Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn,
• No L service in Manhattan, or between Brooklyn and Manhattan,
• Additional service will be added to the G, J and M lines
• Free transfers between Livonia Avenue on the L and Junius Street on the 3, and between Broadway on the G and Lorimer Street on the J, M and Z.

The workshop will be hosted tonight at 6 p.m. at Progress High School for Professional Careers (850 Grand Street) in East Williamsburg.

 

A Bensonhurst man was found dead after what appears to be a freak accident over the weekend.

Police say that on Saturday, at around 5 a.m., officers found 68-year-old Franklin Goodman, the motorcyclist, lying on the road at Bushwick Avenue and Montrose Avenue with “trauma about the body.”

He was taken to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation found that Goodman was traveling northbound on Bushwick Avenue when he lost control of his 2004 Suzuki motorcycle.

He dropped his motorcycle when he reached Montrose Avenue, but came “to rest” under a box truck parked near 235 Bushwick Avenue.

There are no arrests at this time, according to authorities. The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.

Authorities are investigating the death of a man at a Greenpoint subway stop.

On Friday morning, police found a man in his 40s unconscious and unresponsive on the G train at Nassau Avenue.

EMS immediately took him to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, there were no obvious signs of trauma. The investigation is now ongoing.

Los Sures is hosting its 15th annual Dominican Independence Day Celebration today at 6 p.m.

The celebration will be hosted at the Brooklyn Arbor Elementary School, located at 325 South 3rd Street.

The event will include activities, food and music for all.

Police have reported more robberies in recent days in the 90th Precinct, which covers north Brooklyn.

On Monday, authorities say a man entered Champs Diner, located at 197 Meserole Street in East Williamsburg, around 1:30 a.m.

He went in through a side door. Once inside, the suspect, pictured above, stole four iPads, a Galaxy tablet, an Amazon Fire Kindle and two safes, which in total contained $10,000.

Authorities are also seeking information about a robbery that occurred on January 27.

At 4 a.m. on that Friday morning, a 31-year-old woman was approached from behind by a man at the corner of Hooper Street and South 1st Street in Williamsburg.

He pushed her to the ground and proceeded to take her purse, which contained $600 in cash. The victim suffered bruises to both of her knees, but refused medical attention.

The was last seen wearing a bubble jacket and jeans.

Police are looking for a man who entered a Williamsburg restaurant and stole money from the register.

Authorities say that on Sunday, February 5, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a man entered Setagaya at 280 Bedford Avenue through the basement gate.

You can see him in the video above walking past the restaurant, doubling park and pulling up the gate.

Once he was inside, the suspect in question damaged the cash register and removed $300 in cash before fleeing.

After the winter snowstorm canceled the original North Williamsburg Transportation Safety meeting, elected officials have rescheduled it for Thursday, March 9th.

Councilman Stephen Levin, Assemblyman Joseph Lentol and State Senator Daniel Squadron will all be on hand to take your questions and comments about transportation safety.

They will be accompanied by the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) and advocacy group Transportation Alternatives.

The event will be at the Bushwick Inlet Park Building at 86 Kent Avenue from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
